Deputies: Intoxicated driver ran red light, hit cop car | Crime
MONROE, MI (Toledo News Now) - Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies say a driver was intoxicated when he ran a red light and rear ended a police cruiser Thursday.
The divers name has not been released, and police have not said whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Deputies say a deputy was turning his marked police car onto Third Street from South Monroe Street in Monroe just before 4 p.m. Thursday when the driver ran the red light at the intersection and hit the back of the police car. The officer was transported to the hospital and later released. The police dog in the car at the time was uninjured.
The suspect was also transported to the hospital, where a blood sample was taken. After being released the 68-year-old man was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated. Deputies are not releasing the suspect’s name until formal charges are filed.
