Witnesses follow home invasion suspect until deputies arrive | Crime
NEWPORT, MI (Toledo News Now) - The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a man confessed to several Monroe County home invasions after witnesses called police while trailing him from a crime scene.
Deputies say a Newport resident called a family member of a neighbor after he saw someone trying to break in to that neighbor’s home in the 7000 block of Labo Road. The sheriff’s office says when the family member arrived the suspect got into a vehicle and fled the scene. The family member followed the suspect in his vehicle until officers caught up with him in Estral Beach, deputies said.
Deputies arrested at 21-year-old Newport man when they arrived. Detectives say the suspect confessed to the Newport home invasion as well as several other break-ins in the area.
Police say they recovered stolen property at the time of the arrest and returned it to the homeowner.
